The REST API provides separate asynchronous document operations with workspace scoped credentials. Its OpenAPI specification describes the HTTP contract. Integrations cover supported connections and file exchange workflows; a catalog listing does not imply automatic synchronization.
Privacy and compliance.
Private documents require account and document permissions. A public sharing link deliberately allows access to the shared view. AI features send the content required for a request to the configured processing providers.
The trust center collects security controls, compliance information and subprocessors. The privacy policy explains data processing, and the security policy explains safeguards and reporting. Describe the scope of a specific control accurately; a provider certification does not automatically certify every customer workflow.
Limits that matter.
- Source details and formatted references need review. Check authors, dates, titles and publication details against the source you actually used.
- A matching passage is not proof of plagiarism, and no matches does not prove originality. Web checks use accessible public sources and do not cover every publication, private repository or university database.
- Citation checks inspect saved citation links and metadata. They do not establish whether every claim is true or whether a source supports an argument.
- PDF source extraction needs readable text. OCR is not available for scanned pages without text.
A formatted reference does not prove a claim. A similarity percentage does not determine plagiarism. The writer still needs to read the source and apply the requirements of their institution or publisher. Our methodology explains these distinctions.

What can I import or look up?
Find sources using a title, URL, DOI or ISBN, or enter a reference manually. Supported file imports and research connections are explained in the documentation. Scanned PDF pages without readable text need a separate text extraction workflow.
Can I use Citation with Word or Google Docs?
Citation has a Word companion for the supported Office workflow. You can also export DOCX documents and exchange references with other tools. Google Docs workflows use the supported import and export steps; a catalog listing does not mean automatic two way synchronization.
How does Citation compare with Zotero?
Zotero focuses on collecting and managing a research library with desktop and word processor workflows. Citation brings writing, references and AI assistance into a browser workspace. Choose based on your required styles, document workflow and library transfer needs.
Does Citation prove that my work is original?
No. A web match can be a quotation, common wording or text that needs attribution. No matches does not prove originality. Citation checks inspect saved source metadata and links; they do not establish factual truth.
Can an AI assistant read my private documents?
Only through an authorized connection with the required permissions for the selected workspace. Public discovery pages do not grant access to private content. Review a connection’s scope and revoke access when it is no longer needed.
What information reaches AI providers?
The prompt and context required for the selected action can be processed by configured AI services. Voice features can also process audio or speech text. The trust center lists providers, purposes and the scope of each connection.
How can I export or delete my data?
Export documents as DOCX, PDF or TXT and references as BibTeX or RIS from the supported workspace controls. Use Data requests for account access, correction or deletion. Exporting a file and deleting an account are different actions.
