Why choose Citation over BibGuru?
Citation is a BibGuru alternative for turning the sources you collect into a complete essay. Write with AI assistance, connect the references as you go, and keep your evidence beside the argument you are developing.
Ask the AI Assistant to help explain an idea or revise a paragraph using the current draft and saved sources. Review the proposed edit before applying it, then invite an editor to comment on the passages that need another perspective.
Start free with a new document or bring the writing you have already done. Citation keeps the draft, source records, feedback, and complete paper exports in the same workspace.

Sources and styles
Add the sources behind your essay by title, URL, DOI, ISBN, or manual entry. Save the record in Citation and insert a connected citation into the paragraph that uses it, so the evidence stays close to the point you are making.
Choose APA 7, MLA 9, either Chicago 18 system, Cite Them Right Harvard 12, IEEE, Vancouver (NLM), AMA 11, or ACS. Citation formats the document’s linked citations and bibliography together and can reformat them when you switch styles.
Correct a source’s author, date, or publication details once to update its linked uses in the document. Review the record against the original material, then keep working on the ideas instead of maintaining a separate reference list.
Writing and review
Give the next paragraph a starting point with Citation’s AI Assistant. Ask for help developing an explanation, clarifying a sentence, or revising a passage using your draft and saved sources as context.
Review changes in place before you accept them. Invite an editor to leave comments on selected text and work through replies in the same document. Resolve feedback as you revise, with version history available when you want to revisit an earlier saved draft.
Before sharing the essay, use the web check to see matching passages from public sources and open their links. Use the results to improve quotations and attribution. The check does not search private institutional repositories.
Imports and exports
Use the reference list you created in BibGuru as a starting point for your Citation document. Bring the written draft as DOCX or TXT, then add the relevant sources through lookup or manual entry.
A Word bibliography or pasted list contains formatted text. It does not automatically become connected source records on import. Add those records and insert linked citations while revising the passages that use them.
Export the complete essay as DOCX, PDF, or TXT when you are ready. Download BibTeX or RIS to reuse its source data. Your paper leaves Citation with the writing and review already brought together, ready for its next step.
