What is a sentence rewriter?
A sentence rewriter suggests a different way to express an existing sentence. It can replace wordy phrases, rearrange a clause or make an action easier to follow. The aim is clearer writing that still communicates your original point.
Citation opens your text in an editable document, where the AI revision appears when it is ready. It works with a single sentence or a short paragraph, so you can review each change in context and keep the wording that fits your draft.
How to rewrite a sentence with Citation
Paste your sentence
Add a sentence or a short paragraph to the tool above. Include the surrounding sentence when a pronoun or technical term needs context.
Choose Rewrite
Citation opens your text in the editor and applies the revision when it is ready. The AI focuses on clarity and concise wording while being instructed to preserve your meaning and language.
Review and keep writing
Read the revision in context, adjust it in the document, or use Undo rewrite to restore the original before making further edits. Copy your text when you are ready.

How to reword a sentence without changing its meaning
Start with the claim, then improve the wording around it. For example, “The results may indicate a difference” should not become “The results prove a difference.” The second sentence is stronger than the evidence described in the first.
Check who did what, when it happened and how certain the statement is. Keep qualifications such as “in this sample,” negatives such as “not,” and limits such as “some.” Read the sentences before and after the revision to make sure references such as “it” or “this approach” still make sense.
When rewriting manually, replace empty phrases with direct verbs, remove repeated ideas and move the main action closer to its subject. Read the result aloud. A familiar, precise word is usually more useful than an unusual synonym that changes the nuance.
Citation checks numbers, quotations and recognizable citation text during a rewrite. These checks support your review; they do not verify the evidence or guarantee that every detail is preserved.
Rewrite sentences for essays, emails and everyday work
Essays and research. Clarify a topic sentence, tighten a discussion paragraph or make a transition easier to follow. Preserve technical terms, qualifications and the citation attached to the claim.
Emails and work documents. Put the request, decision or next step where the reader can find it. Check that names, dates, responsibilities and deadlines still match your original message.
Notes and explanations. Turn a wordy explanation into a sentence you can follow when you return to it. Keep enough context to distinguish your own interpretation from a source's findings.
Sentence rewriting, paraphrasing and grammar checking
Rewriting and rephrasing both change how an idea is expressed. You might rewrite your own sentence to remove repetition or make its structure clearer. Paraphrasing often involves explaining information from a source in your own words, with attribution to that source.
Grammar checking looks for errors in spelling, punctuation and sentence construction. A rewrite may improve these while changing the wording more broadly. This tool is not a source verification service or a plagiarism check, and a new sentence structure does not make someone else’s idea your own.
Keep quotation marks around exact borrowed wording. When you paraphrase a source, retain the citation and check the original passage. See how to insert citations in Citation for the document workflow.
Keep the revision in your document
Your result appears directly in the Citation editor, where you can revise the wording, format the text and copy it. Keep the revision in context as you work on the rest of your draft.
Get started for free carries your current text, title and formatting into your account and returns you to the same document. You do not need to paste the passage again or repeat the setup steps.
Your working draft is kept in this browser tab. Text you submit for rewriting is sent for AI processing. Copy anything you need before closing the tab, or save it to your account. Read our Privacy Policy for information about data handling.

Rewording a source does not remove the need for a reference. Generate references in AMA, IEEE, ACS or Harvard style, then review the source details before adding them to your work.
