Explain a technical idea with precision

Choose a question the intended reader can recognize. Decide what they need to understand by the end of the article.

Identify the source material and the version or implementation it describes. Similar terminology can refer to different behavior.

Begin with a recognizable question

Introduce the behavior or problem before the full technical vocabulary. Give each new term a reason to appear.

Order sections around what the reader needs next, rather than copying the structure of a system diagram or specification.

Keep sources close

Add the relevant documentation or publications and verify their details. Connect implementation specific claims to the source that establishes them.

State the scope when a behavior belongs to a particular version or approach. Do not turn one documented example into a universal rule.

Choose a bounded example

Use an example that makes one relationship understandable. Explain the assumptions needed for the illustration to work.

Change the example when the next concept requires a different explanation. An analogy should not be stretched beyond what it can clarify.

Invite different readers

Ask a knowledgeable reader to check accuracy and a reader closer to the intended audience to identify skipped steps. Use comments to locate each issue.

Compare revisions against both concerns. An AI suggestion that sounds simpler may remove a distinction the explanation needs.

Review the complete explanation

Follow the article from its opening question to its conclusion. Check that each section supplies the context needed for the next.

Verify references and inspect the exported document. Recheck technical details when the underlying source or implementation changes.
