Microsoft Word
Exchange DOCX drafts, or use the separately installed Citation companion in Word.
Exchange a document
- Save your Word draft as a DOCX file.
- Import it through Citation's draft import or the Microsoft Word integration entry.
- Review its formatting and citation details in Citation.
- Export a Word document when you want to continue in Word.
Changes in one copy do not automatically update the other. Keep track of which copy you are editing.
Set up the companion
The companion is an additional option that runs inside Word. It can preview selected text, save it as a new Citation document, and insert citations or a bibliography.
- Run Citation at an HTTPS address that Word can reach. Local development requires a certificate trusted by your computer.
- Prepare the manifest from the repository instructions in integrations/word/README.md.
- After reviewing its permissions, install the manifest through the Word add in development workflow.
- Open Citation in Word and sign in to your Citation account.
Opening Citation in a browser does not install the companion. Availability depends on the Word host and installation settings. DOCX exchange remains available separately.
Review insertions
Import only text you explicitly preview and save. Insert plain text references after your current selection. Insertions do not replace the selected text or update automatically. Check the resulting citation and bibliography in the Word document.
