Automate your workspace

Connect Citation to your automation platform to work with documents, sources and saved changes.

Choose your platform

Each platform has its own setup guide and downloadable package. Zapier uses private app source, Make uses custom app definitions, n8n uses HTTP workflows, and Gumloop connects through MCP.

Prepare your connection

Your Citation operator must configure the MCP address and apply the MCP and automation database migrations. Cloud platforms need a reachable HTTPS address. A localhost address works only for software on that computer.

Sign in to Citation and open Automation connections in settings. Create a token for the workspace you want to use and choose its permissions. Read permissions are selected initially. Enable writing and exporting only when your workflow needs them.

Store the token in your platform's credential store. Each token grants access to one workspace for 1 to 90 days. You can replace or revoke it from Automation connections.

Review your workflow

  1. Follow your platform's setup guide and connect a disposable workspace for testing.
  2. Read a saved document before trying a write action. Check the document, source and reference returned by each action.
  3. Keep the same request UUID and input when retrying a write. Review version conflicts before changing saved work.
  4. If your workflow reads events, save its checkpoint only after processing every page and completing downstream actions.
