Connect your apps

Bring selected references and documents into Citation, or export work to another app.

Choose an integration

Open Integrations in settings and choose an app. Its entry lists the available connection, import, and export actions. Availability depends on how the service is configured.

Use the available connection

  • Reference managers can exchange supported RIS, BibTeX, or CSL JSON files. Some also offer a library connection.
  • Writing and storage apps may offer an account connection or selected file import.
  • Research providers offer the search or reference import actions listed in their entry.
  • Word and Obsidian companions require a separate installation in their host app.

If an account connection needs setup, follow the displayed guidance or use a supported file import. A listed app does not imply that its account connection is already configured.

Review before importing

  1. Choose the connection or import action for the app.
  2. Select the references or document you want to bring into Citation.
  3. Review the preview and any warnings before saving.
  4. Open the saved result and check its details and formatting.

File exchange does not automatically synchronize later changes. Reference files transfer citation details; attachments and collections are not included. Paperpile feeds read a bibliography snapshot when connected or refreshed.

Export or disconnect

Use the entry's Export from Citation actions to download a supported format. Use Disconnect when you no longer want Citation to use an account connection. Review any retained imports separately in your workspace.
