Start guide
Take your first draft from a blank page to a source, a citation, and a writing review.
Step 3 of 5
Add your first source
Open Cite, find a source, and review its details before saving it to this document.
Explore Citation
Citation brings your document, writing assistant, sources, and checks into one workspace. Create a document to bring your writing and research together.
Sign in to create, edit, cite, or check your work.
Create your first document
- Create an account or sign in. Complete the account setup if prompted.
- In your workspace, use Create to start a document. You can also import a DOCX or TXT draft.
- Give the document a title and write a paragraph of at least 20 words. Your draft saves automatically.
You can also begin with Write, Cite, or Check on the homepage. Your starting input follows you through sign in and onboarding.
Connect a source
- Open Cite beside your document. Find a source by title, URL, DOI, or ISBN, or choose Add manually.
- Review the details and save the source to this document.
- Place your cursor after the claim you want to support. Choose Cite beside the saved source to insert its citation.
Review your writing
- Open Check, then Writing.
- Choose Review my writing. Read the feedback in Write.
- Decide which suggestions to use. Your draft changes only when you accept an edit.
The Getting started checklist records completed work in the same document. Its final step completes after a successful writing review or a completed web check, rather than when you click a button.
