Review web matches

Compare matching passages with accessible web sources and decide what needs attention.

Step 3 of 5
Compare the passage

Read the wording and its context. A match alone does not establish plagiarism.

Run a web check

  1. Open your own document and choose Check.
  2. Choose Web matches and review the displayed word count. A check accepts 20 to 5,000 words.
  3. Choose Check my writing and wait for the result.

The sample workspace shows the controls but does not run a scan.

Review a match

  1. Open a matching passage and its linked source.
  2. Compare the wording and context. Decide whether the passage is a quotation, shared phrasing, or a claim that needs attribution.
  3. Add a source or revise the passage when appropriate.
  4. Choose Mark reviewed once you have considered the match. You can mark it unreviewed again.

Understand coverage

A match is not proof of plagiarism. No matches does not prove originality. Checks use accessible public web sources and do not cover every publication, private repository, or university database.

Read any coverage or service messages with the result. An incomplete or unavailable check should not be treated as a completed review.
